0.51.0: Separate Menus for Blog and Docs, and a Sidebar That Opens Itself
Version 0.51.0 is out. This release focuses on navigation: the blog and the docs now each have their own sidebar and burger menu, and the sidebar no longer loads with every section closed.
A sidebar and burger menu for each section
Until now, the blog and the docs shared one sidebar. A docs page showed your tags, and a blog post showed the docs contents. Now each section has its own menu, and a page only shows the links for the section it belongs to.
- The navbar lists the section links (such as Docs) followed by your usual user links.
- The sidebar and burger menu show only the current section's items.
- The Top block stays in the blog's sidebar and burger menu, and the docs no longer show it.
On a site with long docs, this keeps the sidebar short and relevant to the page you are reading.
The sidebar opens its first section by default
Previously, the sidebar expanded only the section containing a link to the current page. On a page that no sidebar link pointed to, such as the home page, every section stayed collapsed and the sidebar looked empty.
Now:
- If a link matches the current page, its section opens as before.
- If no link matches, the first section opens, which on the blog is Top.
Upgrading
Bump your packages to 0.51.0. For a new project, run npx blognami@latest. No database migrations or configuration changes are needed.
To check the release is working, open your home page and confirm the Top section is open in the sidebar. Then open a docs page and confirm that the sidebar shows only the docs contents.
